SECOND UPDATE: Arson Suspected In Middletown Fire

SECOND UPDATE 5-15: A statement from Middletown Police on Thursday afternoon says aggravated arson charges against 18-year-old Thaddeus Shields have been dropped.

Investigators say a 16-year-old girl told them that she saw Shields help start the fire. That girl is now facing a juvenile charge of obstructing justice.

The 17-year-old who arrested with Shields on Wednesday is still facing a juvenile charge of aggravated arson.

UPDATE: Two teens are facing aggravated arson charges for the fire that destroyed Jennifer Chitwood's home on Roosevelt early Tuesday morning. 

Middletown Police say 18-year-old Thaddeus Shields of Woodlawn Avenue and a 17-year-old set the house on fire. Chitwood says teens who live near her have been threatening her lately.

ORIGINAL STORY:
(Middletown) Police in Middletown told Jennifer Chitwood to flee her home and stay somewhere else after teens in her neighborhood threatend her Monday night. The young mother says she had filed police reports about wrongdoing by the teens in her neighborhood. Firefighters suspect arson in a blaze that gutted Chitwood's home in the 2000 block of Roosevelt Blvd in Middletown that happened around 1:15 a.m. Tuesday.

Chitwood said all her things are gone including "pictures,  all my kids clothing, my baby's medicines, he's premature, and all of his stuff, his bed, all of our beds, all my clothing, food, everything, everything is gone."

Chitwood said she was staying with relatives overnight after Middletown Police told her it would be safer for her to stay somewhere else. She said she is staying with them. The Red Cross is helping her and the children, a baby boy and young daughter. A firefighter who battled the early morning blaze suffered from smoke inhalation. He was taken to the hospital and is recovering.
