(Cincinnati) -- A 5-month-old abandoned baby gorilla at the Cincinnati Zoo has ventured outdoors with her new family for the first time.
Gladys, The female Western lowland gorilla, explored the outside yard Friday with her surrogate mother, 30-year-old M'Linzi, and M'Linzi's daughter, Mara.
Gladys was born Jan. 29, in Brownsville, Texas at the Gladys Porter Zoo. When her mother rejected her, she moved to Cincinnati, in February, where a team of human caregivers provided around-the-clock care.
The Zoo says Gladys will be outside daily from noon to 3 p.m. The staff encourages visitors to always check the zoos website in advance in case her appearances may be canceled, shortened or rescheduled for weather or other reasons.
