VIDEO: Turtle Exhibit Coming to Newport Aquarium

(Newport, KY) -- To kick off the announcement of their new Turtle Canyon exhibit, Newport Aquarium showed off a 6-month old loggerhead sea turtle.  It hatched in North Carolina, and is part of the Aquarium's loggerhead head-start program.  Once a year, they receive a turtle, and care for it, until it's old and strong enough to be released into the wild.

Chris Pearson says they will release this turtle in October.  In the meantime, they're holding a contest on Facebook to name her.

In late March, the Newport Aquarium will open the Turtle Canyon exhibit, featuring more than 14 species of turtles and tortoises from around the world.  They will have a 84 year old Galapagos tortoise, named Bravo, and a 118 pound alligator snapping turtle named Thunder.

The Aquarium's 200 pound loggerhead, Denver, will still be on display in the Surrounded by Sharks display.
